In Canvas, the Inbox is a messaging system within the platform that facilitates communication between users, such as students, instructors, and course participants. It serves as a centralized messaging hub where users can send and receive messages, making it a convenient tool for communication within the Canvas platform.
Using the inbox will send a message to recipients within Canvas, as well as, send an email to their SNC email address that includes the contents of the message.
Creating a message in Inbox
In your universal navigation, click on "Inbox":

Click on the "Compose New Message" button:

To compose your message:
(1) Select the course that you would like to send a message to.
(2) Check the box if you would like to send the message to act like a "CC" so that replies only go back to the sender.
(3) A dropdown will appear to select who receives the message within the course. The top choice is all who are enrolled in the course, no matter the role. You also have the option to just send to people that are categorized as a specific role (ie. Just teachers, Just students, etc.)
(4) Create the subject of your message
(5) Compose your message
(6) Attach files or media (optional)
(7) Send your message to the recipients
