How to export a Canvas Course

Need to save a copy of your Canvas course or transfer it to another account or institution? Canvas allows you to export your course content into a downloadable package that can be imported later into another Canvas course shell. This is especially useful for backing up your course, sharing materials with colleagues, or preparing for future terms.

 

Exporting a Course

1. Navigate to the course you want to export.

2. Click on "Settings" on the left-hand side of the screen.

3. Click on "Export Course Content" found on the right-hand side of the screen.

4. Keep "Course" selected and click on "Create Export"

5. Your course will process. You can leave the page while it is working.

6. You will get a confirmation that the course has been exported. Click on "New Export" to download this export to your device.

7. The new export will save as an .imscc file.

Save these file in a folder, Google Drive, personal computer, or external hard drive for future use.
