How to Install and Use FortiClient VPN

Body

FortiClient allows SNC staff members to access certain campus services (i.e. Banner, Business Objects, etc) from off campus via a virtual private network (VPN). Before doing this, you must have already been granted access to one or more resources which require it. If you have any questions, contact the ITS Service Desk.

To install FortiClient VPN

  1. Go to vpn.snc.edu and login with Okta
  2. Click on "Download FortiClient" and then the device type you are on. The installer should download.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Run the install.

IMPORTANT: The install process includes the download of a number of files from the vendor's servers. We've heard reports that during certain very busy times, this install may take a while. Please be patient. If the process seems to be sitting there or taking longer than you expected, please let it run. The install must complete. If you need to, feel free to cancel it now and then run the install again later when you have more time (i.e. maybe try later in the evening instead of the afternoon).
  4. If asked to choose the Setup Type, select only "Secure Remote Access" (leave the other checkboxes turned off). Use the default selection for all other prompts.
