Assisting Students to Login to compsci04

2 factor authentication is now required to login to compsci04.

There was an attempted brute force login attempt into compsci04 in December 2022, which necessitated this 2FA requirement.

As of this writing 2fa isn't a login requirement, but ssh to compsci04 is also not yet enabled over the internet.  After 2fa is required for login/logins are available over the internet students/staff/and faculty will need assistance setting up 2FA.

To help students/staff/faculty you'll also need to enable 2FA on your account.  Someone with access to the server will need to help you login for the first time.

1. Have the person with access to the server login.

2. You or the other person will type in the following command:

su sixcharacterusername

3. The person needing to setup 2FA will then type in their password.  Assure them that it's normal that the type cursor doesn't move while they type, and that they just need to trust that they're typing in their password!  Making a mistake will not lock them out, so there's no need to worry!

4.  Follow the "Setting up 2FA" portion of this document: Setting up 2 Factor Authentication on compsci04
